01Mission & vision

Mission

A Different World Collective is a non profit organization that serves Black professionals by uniting, uplifting, and empowering within the media & entertainment community.

Vision

Rooted in the legacy of a pioneering employee resource group, we cultivate meaningful connections, develop future Black leaders, and drive collective impact that improves our industry and the communities we serve.

02Our story

It started as an ERG.

ADW Collective describes itself as rooted in the legacy of a pioneering employee resource group — a room that existed inside one organisation, for the people inside it.

What ADW is building now is that same room, taken out of any single company and opened to the industry: a 501(c)(3) nonprofit where Black professionals in media and entertainment convene on their own terms, independent of any one employer.

In June, ADW hosted its first Juneteenth happy hour for Black media and entertainment professionals. Fifty-seven people RSVP’d, and registration closed ahead of the date. It is a beginning, and it is the right kind of beginning: the community showed up for itself.

Unite. Uplift. Empower.

Three verbs, taken from our own mission

03What we stand on

What we stand on.

  • 01

    Unite

Bring Black professionals across media and entertainment into the same room, on purpose and on a regular basis.

    Convene

  • 02

    Uplift

Make the connection useful — visibility, information and access that travel beyond the night itself.

    Connect

  • 03

    Empower

Develop the next generation of Black leaders in an industry that has not always made space for them.

    Develop

04Leadership

The people behind ADW.

Awaiting content

ADW has not published its leadership or board publicly, so nothing has been invented here. This section is built and ready for names, roles, headshots and short bios.

For funders and corporate partners doing diligence, this is one of the highest-value sections on the site — a named, credible leadership team is often the difference between an enquiry and a commitment.

05What's next

Where this is going.

A community that convenes consistently, programming that develops Black leaders in media and entertainment, and the partnerships to sustain both.
